I don't know about everyone else but in Windows one thing that I have always loved about the command window is that it supported drag and drop. For example, let's say that I opened up a command window and I wanted to change the directory to one that I was looking at. I used to just type cd, then drag the folder from Windows Explorer address bar, and drop it onto the Command window. This would then cause the full directory path to be inserted with quotes around it in my window.

So the other night I needed to open a command window to the directory I was looking at. So I do Window Key + R and then type cmd to open a Command window. I then proceed to type cd and go to drag my folder onto the Command window and I get a not allowed icon. What is this? Has windows removed the one thing that made the command window so quick for me? Does anyone know about this? Please let me know if I am missing something.

Yeah it's "by design" and totally obsurd! I used to use this feature quite a bit. The quickest workaround is the Shift-right-click then "Copy as Path". However the "Open Command Windows Here" is now also standard with a Shift-right-click.

Chris,
Yeah after doing some more research I did see that this was by design. Though I didn't know about "Copy as Path". I will definitely use that. Thanks for the tip.

It's funny about "Open Command Window Here" because I didn't know about that either but I had modified my registry on XP to make this work so when I started working on my Vista machine I just made the same registry hack and then later discovered that it was already there.
